LAMINAR FLOW ELEMENTS MDT 500

* MDT500 Multivariable Transmitter


Because of their inherently high accuracy, stable calibration, excellent response time and repeatability, Laminar Flow Elements (LFEs) excel in critical gas and air flow measurements and are frequently utilized in validating calibration standards. Standard models are available to measure as little as 0.2 SCCM (5.9 E-06 SCFM) to as much as 2250 SCFM at standard conditions. Custom models for up to 15,000 SCFM of air are available. Stainless steel or aluminum materials make LFEs compatible with most gases and flow rate of gas mixtures can also be measured when the percentages of component gases and mixture properties are known. Higher accuracies can be achieved when used in conjunction with the Meriam MDT500 multivariable transmitter and software package. The LFE matrix is made from individual SS tubes or windings of SS foil, these tubes are long enough, relative to their inside diameter to cause laminar flow to occur inside each tube, the result is a near linear relationship between DP and flow rate. The DP generated across the matrix responds very quickly to changes in flow and pressure loss to the system is reduced as each LFE is sized to produce no greater than 8” water column at maximum flowing conditions. Individual tube diameters are very small so flowing gases need to be clean and dry to preserve the calibration. Filtered inlet versions of most LFE models are available to keep the matrix clean and the calibration constant.

The Meriam MDT500 Flow Measurement System is designed to allow users to accurately measure air and gas flow rates. The direct mounted, multivariable transmitter mounts to any Meriam LFE Model. LabVIEW® Drivers and Software Development Kit are included to make using the MDT500 even easier. Using LabVIEW® executable, ACFM, SCFM and mass flow are displayed on your PC. The MDT500 delivers impressive system accuracy of +/- 0.8% Flow Rate and a response time of less than 0.1 second. With long term stability and no moving parts the unit is maintenance free. The MDT500 provides a wide flow range, while maintaining accuracy and there is no drift over time and temperature. It delivers best repeatability and is also independent of orientation. The MDT500 offers linear response and a low head loss model is also available. Laminar applications include leak detection, calibration reference standards, critical gas flow measurements, combustion air flow to engines and many more.

Meriam Manometers have many advantages in this age of technology because of their inherent accuracy and simplicity. Manometers are unique in being both pressure measurement instruments and standards for calibration of other instruments. The manometer is commonly used to measure pressures ranging from as high as 100 inches of 2.95 Red Fluid (10.65 PSI) to the lowest vacuums of space. Manometers are available in varying designs depending upon application:

* U-Tube Manometers

The U-tube manometer is the basic and most widely used style of manometer. The Meriam U-tube manometer is a versatile, economical instrument for the measurement of pressures, vacuums or differential pressures. Pressure measurements are accomplished by balancing a vertical head of indicating fluid with the pressure to be measured. There are no cams, gears, or levers to operate in the manometer. This allows the U-tube manometer to be recognized by NIST as a primary standard due to its inherent accuracy and simplicity of operation. Meriam U-tube manometers are constructed of a ridged cast aluminum frame, aluminum indicating scale and hand bent glass U-tube. Mounting holes are provided in the frame for mounting to a wall, column or other suitable structure.

* Well Type Manometers

Well manometers are a direct reading device designed for process monitoring, general purpose production testing or laboratory measurement. Designed for a maximum line pressure of 250 PSI (500 PSI optional) these instruments may also be used for tank level, flow measurement and leak detection. Well manometers are constructed of aluminum channel, stainless steel end blocks and stainless steel manometer well. The 7/16 diameter glass tubing is yoke packed with viton gaskets at each end block and is supported at spaced intervals to prevent distortion. In most cases, the uncertainty of a manometer reading is +1/2 of the smallest scale graduation. This is due to the human eyes ability to interpolate between graduations.

* Inclined Manometers

Inclined manometers provide greater readability by stretching a vertical differential along an inclined indicating column, giving more graduations per unit of vertical height. This effectively increases the instruments sensitivity and accuracy. Scales are typically graduated to the hundredth of an inch. The Model 40HEX Inclined manometer is individually calibrated and the angle of inclination is set relative to the instrument level mounted above the channel. The unit is also capable of operating with 350-PSI line pressure. The construction of the 40HEX35 is similar to the well type manometer described above. Additional inclined manometers are available depending on your requirements.

MFT 4000 Calibrator is a base unit for calibration work with selected NIST traceable sensor modules & integral voltage/current meter. The MFT 4010 Calibrator with HART® is a base unit for modules and full device specific HART® communications. Quick Cal displays HART® PV and AO along with MFT’s NIST traceable measurements. User can identify needed trim(s) and access the trim function(s) from same display. Smart Trim allows selection of analog or digital trims without navigating through menu trees. Documenting included. Documenting memory stores up to 200 HART® configuration files and over 100 calibration results (as-found & as-left data [up to 21 points each], time/date info, tag). The Meriam Instrument MGF16BN digital pressure gauge is designed to handle the demands of process pressure measurement. Pressure ranges are available to 5,000 PSIG at standard accuracy of ±0.25% of full scale and optional accuracy of ±0.1% of full scale.

The display is a 4 digit LCD with 0.5? high numerals and a lower alphanumeric display for engineering units and to aid in set up. Each gauge includes up to 15 field selectable engineering units depending on the sensor range. The gauge is powered by two AA alkaline batteries.

Typical applications are instrumentation and control in the process industries, hydraulics, pneumatics, industrial gases and OEM’s.

Meriam Process Technologies’ M2110L Smart Level Gauge is designed to display tank level in volumetric or mass units based on the hydrostatic head pressure of the fluid in the tank. It can be configured for linear tanks such as vertical cylinders or for use on non-linear tanks such as horizontal cylinders and spheres.

All units are programmed to allow easy configuration of the gauge through the front keypad. The AC powered and 4-20 mA units can also be configured through the RS-232C serial communications port. SPDT relays on AC powered units and the 4-20 mA output on the transmitter models make the 2110L an ideal choice for many level control and recording functions.

The most popular application is tank level measurement. The 2110L can be used in bubbler systems or for direct head measurement on pressurized or vented tanks.
